Sindy Then and Later<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OpWixDAlWbw/Vw3QWtNxeoI/AAAAAAAABoI/P6cJiBFO1CI7lbhylDTR6RxDjZQJsJHQgCLcB/s1600/IMG_0252.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OpWixDAlWbw/Vw3QWtNxeoI/AAAAAAAABoI/P6cJiBFO1CI7lbhylDTR6RxDjZQJsJHQgCLcB/s400/IMG_0252.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought this Sindy doll some time ago at a doll show. I left her in the original handmade dress for years until I spied this little outfit at my local market last week. How gorgeous is it!! I have the pattern for the jacket, which was published when these dolls were popular, probably in the late 1960's. The knitter of this jacket has used almost the same coloured wool as the original one! I am knitting a scarf at the moment, and when that is done, I am going to have a go at knitting up some of these vintage doll patterns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hYWB_lJOPM4/Vw3StwufbqI/AAAAAAAABoU/T21g3ZQi3YUJLkC0LrvvOyi13VhVdl1XQCLcB/s1600/IMG_0257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hYWB_lJOPM4/Vw3StwufbqI/AAAAAAAABoU/T21g3ZQi3YUJLkC0LrvvOyi13VhVdl1XQCLcB/s400/IMG_0257.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
She has the dearest softest and dewy face paint! There is some ground in dirt on her chin, but I just don't want to scrub at it fiercely and remove the pigment.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nuFpOlS9ud0/Vw3TEYE2VfI/AAAAAAAABoY/Lz3QtqRChuI7GbFVAwIYzPzFDk8R7LKYACLcB/s1600/IMG_0255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nuFpOlS9ud0/Vw3TEYE2VfI/AAAAAAAABoY/Lz3QtqRChuI7GbFVAwIYzPzFDk8R7LKYACLcB/s400/IMG_0255.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I looked up a Sindy identification page on the internet, and I don't know much about these dolls, but I think she is the Frankenstein one from the odds and ends sent by Pedigree to New Zealand, according to the <a href="http://petradolls.co.uk/sindy_information_page_1960s_dolls.htm" target="_blank">Petra Dolls Sindy Information Page</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In other dolly news, I gave in recently, and bought a dolly from ebay in a mad greedy grabbing doll-buying rush, and then realised she is not what I thought she was, but I still quite like her. She was sold as a 1980's doll and still has the lovely Sindy face. According the the Petra Dolls site, she could even be from the late 1970's. I really do not know, and if anyone reading this does and could throw some light on which Sindy she is, I would be most grateful. She is wearing another one of the little outfits I bought from the market stall and a ridiculous wig over her shaved hair. She was wearing one of the Styling outfits when I got her, which I have forgotten to take a photo of. At the moment she is in the salon waiting for her hair to dry after a treatment to get it to sit a bit flatter and longer, but I don't like her chances! She was originally a black haired doll but I think this honey blonde wig colour suits her.</div>

If this mess doesn't flatten out a bit, I will try and see if I can get a reasonably priced replacement wig. I will let you know of the outcome with her hair soon.<br />
<br />
I was very lucky this week and got a porcelain Ashton Drake My Little Ballerina doll at the local op shop. She is very grimy, and I have not done anything with her yet, but I will show you all how she cleans up soon.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I saw this lovely doll looking a bit worse for wear in a suburban op shop last year, I could not resist her. She was very grubby but otherwise in good nick.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Her lashes have been trimmed a little and her left pigtail has had a bit of a trim too. As she has a lot of soft hair, you can't really notice it too much. Her hair is quite good quality and is lovely and soft.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She has sleep eyes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made her a little bloomers and top outfit using one of my old patterns, and modified it to fit her. She is 15 inches high and I thought I could use the pattern for that size, but I had to upgrade her to the 20 inch doll size so that everything would fit her baby's stomach.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am making a hoodie at the moment using a KwikSew pattern and using a sweatshirt fabric with large cat's heads printed on a grey background. Sounds weird but I like it. I needed some hoodies to wear to the pool and just lounging about or down at the shops, and thought I would have a go at making some. Spotlight had a lot of this kind of fabric on sale recently, so I bought various prints to make 4 hoodies! I will do a show and tell soon. I wanted to make something in a stretch fabric as I have lost 3.1 kilos since the beginning of the year and don't want to make anything too fitted as I lose more weight. I have a fair bit more to lose but I already feel a lot better. We have had a hot and humid summer here in Australia and I have felt pretty uncomfortable so that was the final push I needed to have another go at losing some weight.</div>

I started this little outfit sometime in the second half of last year, and got hopelessly distracted by life! Anyway, now it is all finished and I am sure the 18 inch girls are fighting to see who is the first to wear it. So far the American Girl and the Alexander Girl (Favorite Friends) have been the first to try it on. Both outfits are in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/267758101/gypsy-set-for-american-girl-and-other-18?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank">Etsy</a> and <a href="http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291682397039?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649" target="_blank">Ebay</a> stores.</div>

It consists of a 100 percent pure wool felt vest decorated with braid, fringing and a facet cut plastic bead. Underneath is a snowy white peasant vest and a little sash to hold it in place. The outfit wouldn't be finished without a head scarf and this one has some sequins to really set the gypsy mood.</div>

I thought I had cleaned up a very adorable 1980's plastic baby doll recently, but when she was all dry and had finished at the hairdressers, I noticed her skin was very dirty. I read on the internet about baking soda being able to shift the more stubborn in-ground dirt on plastic dolls, and so I mixed some with some vinegar and scrubbed at it with a soft scourer sponge. It worked a treat and she looks healthy and pink now instead of a dull colour. I am cutting out the fabric to make her an A-line dress and co-ordinating bloomers. She is such a funny doll because she is obviously a baby but has the hair of a 3 year old! I can't wait to show you the photos.</div>

I really want an Australian Girl doll, but due to the combination of needing to save up for one and the model I want not being available until the end of the year, I will just have to wait. <a href="http://www.australiangirldoll.com.au/product/matilda/" target="_blank"> Matilda</a> is a lovely doll and is 2 inches taller than the American Girl dolls. I just can't understand why she would be out of production until the end of the year, but I guess I will have to be patient!</div>

Hello, and a Tale of 10 Crissy Family Dolls<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uwIXN5X_Jpc/Vp8Q7vK3-JI/AAAAAAAABjA/c_Cfei_kjQM/s1600/IMG_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uwIXN5X_Jpc/Vp8Q7vK3-JI/AAAAAAAABjA/c_Cfei_kjQM/s400/IMG_0042.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Hi! I am back! I had a shocker of a year last year on so many levels that I could not get to blogging. I wasn't doing much doll stuff and not too interested really. Didn't stop me from buying the odd doll or two though!<br />
<br />
This mostly scruffy line-up is all of my Ideal Crissy family and friends that I went out and bought when I read Nymphaea's posts about the wonderful makeovers she did on hers. Nymphaea, if you are out there, I hope you see my post. I really miss your blogging and comments on my blog too.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I was at a trash and treasure market recently, and I spied a Brandi in her original, if not battered, swimsuit. The seller would not budge on anything less than $20.00, but that was pretty good as once I got her home and took her hair out of the plait, I could see it was in good condition. I will still wash it though to freshen it up and straighten the foundation hair. Anyway, I remembered having a Country Crissy, and do you think I could find her in the mess in my spare rooms? I took one room apart to find her and found a lot of other dolls too. I found all of these Crissy family dolls, and counted 9 in total, which I thought was fairly good going. And I got to re-arrange my dolls in storage, and even make more space in the spare rooms.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib9eX659Hji8aHrwzNNlk5oTGQ-ylesQAFv0Qkpa2EBuQEAHkHeBKYC2SnMMIpDbRlYl2t8M83iLqMTxK9_8mbwsDjsEUhXn5-c6jUw-jUZC-J1tYeWsKwWUeAtCdhQoFYJH2LZhYRXVlj/s1600/IMG_0043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib9eX659Hji8aHrwzNNlk5oTGQ-ylesQAFv0Qkpa2EBuQEAHkHeBKYC2SnMMIpDbRlYl2t8M83iLqMTxK9_8mbwsDjsEUhXn5-c6jUw-jUZC-J1tYeWsKwWUeAtCdhQoFYJH2LZhYRXVlj/s400/IMG_0043.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This photo got a bit lightened for some reason.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Country Crissy, who started the Great Doll Clean-Up</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the Brandi that I got from the market last weekend. She still has her tattoo. I have already made my other Brandi (see first photo, top right) a maxi dress, and I will have to think what to dress this one in. Perhaps a beach set to wear over her swimsuit? I am particularly fond of the Brandi dolls, I am not sure why. She just looks so tanned, healthy and happy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am not sure who this one is in the orange spotted over-alls, but a quick check of <a href="http://crissyandbeth.com/Main.html" target="_blank">Beth's site</a> makes her look like a Tara. Her hair is a mess and the base foundation hair has been trimmed as has the extension. I will still give her a mini makeover though. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi07bNsOXozj7K716xnWF1yr-LgTaVGgZcxR4FY8P3lpqIVM5W0osM7Tdt3oInoOl8KARlKRMT71wzOk9aC_byGxjjvFOeMPKQbSvCNvEBmZXISxNcDGcrJqH1Ou9f67cqkGH71y0-dwMNZ/s1600/IMG_0047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi07bNsOXozj7K716xnWF1yr-LgTaVGgZcxR4FY8P3lpqIVM5W0osM7Tdt3oInoOl8KARlKRMT71wzOk9aC_byGxjjvFOeMPKQbSvCNvEBmZXISxNcDGcrJqH1Ou9f67cqkGH71y0-dwMNZ/s400/IMG_0047.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This ratty little ghost at the front has an badly matted hair extension. I am going to struggle dealing with this one, but I had some success with my first Brandi when I did the wet towel and warm iron technique (until I over-did it a bit and frizzed the ends). </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjn2cgzXjfQRYwlEWnXcu-Zqmh3ftq5wXkwILA6G0OHbwrHvOjJLqHS2s3-mUbQPIOanHvxxE9ZQM4HS7enDKO2ue7nQJdN7tagDZwr_IDvA56pQ3OtmXPXFxWrHB9yCyf_1Io85JnHJ-X/s1600/IMG_0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjn2cgzXjfQRYwlEWnXcu-Zqmh3ftq5wXkwILA6G0OHbwrHvOjJLqHS2s3-mUbQPIOanHvxxE9ZQM4HS7enDKO2ue7nQJdN7tagDZwr_IDvA56pQ3OtmXPXFxWrHB9yCyf_1Io85JnHJ-X/s400/IMG_0044.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
I was packing up the dolls in the not as messy spare rooms, and found this little rotter - a Cinnamon! So I posed her with all of my "good" Crissy family dolls who arrived in good condition, or I did makeovers. She still needs a good wash and her hair cleaned, but that is a job for another day. So that makes my collection of these dolls come in at 10, hence the name of this post. Nothing wrong with round numbers!<br />
<br />

Phew, that felt good to do a blog post! Hopefully you will see more of me this year. Please stop by and leave a comment, I would like to hear from you!!<br />

I Am Back Again, and a Few Recent Doll Finds<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BUIe_UM_EZw/VKj_qPtis0I/AAAAAAAABgk/366AP3zg1LQ/s1600/100_2508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BUIe_UM_EZw/VKj_qPtis0I/AAAAAAAABgk/366AP3zg1LQ/s1600/100_2508.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have no real excuse for not blogging except for some fairly large changes to my personal commitments and a dreadful state of apathy. I have been on holidays for just on 2 weeks so I thought it was time to do a new post. I certainly haven't been remiss in obtaining new dolls, and the pic above shows 3 of the latest. Before we get into the details on these three ladies, a big thankyou to Nymphaea, now <a href="http://inthedollroom.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Night Owl</a> for stopping by to see how I am. And thankyou to <a href="http://dollyfever.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Audra</a> for keeping in touch as well when I wasn't a very good email correspondent.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have a slight case of Barbie fever at the moment. My better half did a deal and bought a huge bag of 63 Barbies from an op-shop for me as a surprise. The middle dark haired dolly is from this bag, and the two blondes are from an auction on ebay of 1980's Barbie doll cases, dolls and clothes. The auction was badly presented, and you couldn't see the clothes in much detail, but I had a hunch that it was a good find, so I put in some bids and won. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am 99 per cent sure that this Barbie is a Crystal Barbie from 1983. I found a cheap copy of Collectibly Yours Barbie Doll Indentification & Price Guide 1980 - 1990 by Margo Rana and so far I have identified 3 dolls from my ebay auction win.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried very hard to flatten her hair, but then I realised that these dolls had their long hair tied to one side. I am going to have to find some Barbie sized elastic bands or use some sewing thread to pull her hair to the side. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am really happy that firstly the ebay auction dolls have their original outfits and that I was able to identify them using Margo Rana's book. I am waiting on one that covers the 1990's decade of Barbie dolls as I have a lot more to identify.</div>

Crystal Barbie has a lovely face don't you think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The dolly on the far right is a Barbie using the Stacie face. I have found this information on another collectors site, not in one of my reference books, so I would like to confirm this before I say it is a Barbie for sure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xnP6BcMGPVc/VKkD4CgISII/AAAAAAAABhQ/TGHf5E4km84/s1600/100_2511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xnP6BcMGPVc/VKkD4CgISII/AAAAAAAABhQ/TGHf5E4km84/s1600/100_2511.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think this Stacie Barbie has a particularly lovely face and kind of looks more natural than your average Barbie from the 80's. She is wearing the original tagged Barbie garment that came with this doll. I nearly tossed it in the 'not really interested pile' because it is fairly plain. She is missing quite a few hair plugs on one side of her head.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The dolly in the middle is a 2000's Barbie My Scene doll and I think she is Nolee. She is larger than your average Barbie doll, but she still managed to fit in this Barbie doll dress. She has the most humungous applied hair eye lashes ever. I am planning of getting rid of the pen or ink mark on her face with acne cream. Her previous owner gave her an uneven hair cut, but I kind of like it!</div>

The designers of these two Cutie Pops dolls went mad using colour and pattern. They look very much influenced by the psychedelic 60's and I just love them.</div>

<br />
This is my poor little Ideal Crissy doll, who has had her base hair trimmed at some stage by a previous owner. I still think she is great. The 70's were a back to nature movement for some people, so I have used a folksy patchwork print fabric for her maxi dress.<br />

I think her tail has been trimmed slightly at some stage as it is not level.<br />

Brandi from the Ideal Crissy Family - the Ugly Doll?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WJP8rO7M_GY/UxpnFG0k4SI/AAAAAAAABak/ru_DUYKecBA/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll%27s+maxi+dress+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WJP8rO7M_GY/UxpnFG0k4SI/AAAAAAAABak/ru_DUYKecBA/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll's+maxi+dress+001.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
When I saw <a href="http://thedollbarn.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/ideal-crissy-and-other-hair-theme-dolls.html" target="_blank">Nymphaea's post</a> about the Ideal Crissy doll, I was immediately caught up in the Crissy doll phenomenon, and promptly got one from Ebay. The 'caught up' feeling didn't stop with one member of the family, and now I have Brandi, Crissy's Californian tanned friend (I also have some more of the family in a fairly beaten up state, but that is a story for another day). <br />
<br />
Brandi pre-makeover:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bPu-DsKjwUw/UxpprG0q4MI/AAAAAAAABaw/FCQIQH1rbhk/s1600/Ebay+shoes,+Finished+Liberty+Butterick+Top,+Before+Brandi+Doll+010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bPu-DsKjwUw/UxpprG0q4MI/AAAAAAAABaw/FCQIQH1rbhk/s1600/Ebay+shoes,+Finished+Liberty+Butterick+Top,+Before+Brandi+Doll+010.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
When my Mum saw Brandi after her bath and her hair treatment, she remarked on what an ugly doll she was. I thought she wasn't the prettiest doll when I got her, but now I think she is great. I made her an outfit this week from one of the patterns <a href="http://crissyandbeth.com/Main.html" target="_blank">Beth Colvan</a> kindly has on her site for free, and I think she looks sensational in an outfit from her era, the 1970's. This dress is the backless maxi-dress for the larger Crissy family dolls which are about 17 1/2 inches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5QnlS02H88xU-phWo2oIdDViAApeSKCRiisJG6tQ1UVCQpPdr4VCR0oFGW8MgvRkyw9I68yvA0iqEomnUzNRw8F1J-22CqI127BLEU-ZCsa0F5AIsPnT7V3oe5AQJs7MaLXG9wsf6ftsK/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll%27s+maxi+dress+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5QnlS02H88xU-phWo2oIdDViAApeSKCRiisJG6tQ1UVCQpPdr4VCR0oFGW8MgvRkyw9I68yvA0iqEomnUzNRw8F1J-22CqI127BLEU-ZCsa0F5AIsPnT7V3oe5AQJs7MaLXG9wsf6ftsK/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll's+maxi+dress+002.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
I think that is a pretty face, don't you? Brandi doesn't have the glassene eyes that Crissy and some of the other members of the family have such as Velvet and Kerri. I don't have a Kerri and would like to get her next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCgoaCxI-Nqun-kPS20m3JM5WyoDDEPEe-W4kq4yt9ysT3Qshsgv989JwzFV_KHKaSUgyiyfFUU5WoAXCt40fynGZenqJU49r-rsiZIk2UYc6Pk7is9OdWfsjy8pU7uffwTVjlXzHXkISM/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll%27s+maxi+dress+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCgoaCxI-Nqun-kPS20m3JM5WyoDDEPEe-W4kq4yt9ysT3Qshsgv989JwzFV_KHKaSUgyiyfFUU5WoAXCt40fynGZenqJU49r-rsiZIk2UYc6Pk7is9OdWfsjy8pU7uffwTVjlXzHXkISM/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll's+maxi+dress+003.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
She is an out-doors type of gal. Note the daring backless maxi dress which is great for showing off one's tan. This fabric is left over from a top I made and I was able to 'shop my stash' for all the ribbons and lace trim.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Out-doors gal</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
These are the markings on her back, showing that she was 1971 model. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-07U1pBxt-DQ/UxprqqWStEI/AAAAAAAABbU/Ijnf2ADgw7Q/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll%27s+maxi+dress+015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-07U1pBxt-DQ/UxprqqWStEI/AAAAAAAABbU/Ijnf2ADgw7Q/s1600/Brandi+Crissy+Family+doll's+maxi+dress+015.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, about her hair. I did my usual technique of shampoo, conditioner and fabric softner but I could not get her hair to stay un-tangled. I would just get one section untangled and it would be tangled by the time I had finished the next one. So in desperation, I tried the wet towels technique on the ironing board. It de-knotted the majority of her tail, but the ends were still frizzy so I gave them an extra iron (still protected by wet towels) and made them melt and frizz even more. My Mum suggested cutting them off, but I have decided to leave them on and just say she is an out-doors sun loving gal who hasn't looked after her hair very well.<br />
<br />
I did read on the internet about this kind of hair can stretch with a lot of brushing, and I think that the previous owner did a lot of brushing, which is understandable as the main focus of this toy was the hair.<br />
<br />

I adore these dolls and I am about to make a maxi dress for Crissy, hopefully this weekend. Thanks Nymphaea for writing about them on your blog.<br />

<br />
Here is my finished Connie Crawford shirt made with Butterick 5300, view B. I used a Japanese spot seersucker that I bought from the sale table at Spotlight last July. I finished it in early January just in time for the extreme hot weather we have been having here.<br />
<br />
According to Butterick's website, it is now out of print.<br />
<br />
<img alt="B5300" border="0" height="475" src="http://butterick.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/B5300.jpg" title="B5300" width="450" /><br />
<br />
I like this pattern because it is more realistic sizing and it comes with different pattern pieces for the front to choose from, according to your bust size. The finished shirt was a little large across the front, so I will try the next size down next time I make this.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The hair on the blonde Olsens turned out nicely, but it isn't of great quality and a lot of it came out. Both blonde dollies lost hair as it was so knotty before hand and took a lot of 'aggressive' combing to get the knots out (especially the one that had nail polish in her hair). Strangely the brunette Olsen has much better quality hair which didn't come out anywhere as much as the blonde Olsens. Not sure why they made this doll in the two different hair colours; perhaps they change their hair colours a lot?</div>

I have made this Butterick top 3 times and really like it as it is a cool top to sew quickly for summer. I raised the neckline about an inch as I didn't use lace and didn't want it to be too low. The fabric is Liberty's Tana Lawn and it is divine!</div>

I finished the neckline with an overlock stich, folded it over and sewed it down leaving enough room for the elastic. I think it is easier and neater than turning over a small hem and then turning over enough for the elastic casing. I also sew in a marker for the back in red thread as it is hard to tell the front from the back.</div>

My next project will be clothes for these kinds of dolls. I bet you know who she is. Leave your guess in the comments section for this little Mystery Doll!<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1k05YS8Tl1k/Uu8JyidYh2I/AAAAAAAABXY/tWHPy-LQNrM/s1600/Jan+McLean%252C+Mary+Poppins+Disney%252C+Elise+Bride+021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1k05YS8Tl1k/Uu8JyidYh2I/AAAAAAAABXY/tWHPy-LQNrM/s1600/Jan+McLean%252C+Mary+Poppins+Disney%252C+Elise+Bride+021.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This spooky little bride is all hard plastic with a slightly softer plastic face. She is in reasonable condition with only a small tear at the bottom of her veil. She still has her bouquet and hang tag.<br />
<br />
She is not exactly a glowing bride is she! Perhaps a distant cousin of Chuky? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The hair is in really good condition and is of good quality. You can see the Madame Alexander tag stitched into her dress:<br />

<br />
She is not one of my favourite dolls, and I have thought of selling her at times as she is huge and I don't really have the room to display her. But every time I look at these photos I think that I will keep her a little longer.<br />
<br />
I also have an Elise Ballerina from about 1984 and she doesn't have the spooky doll look as much as the Bride:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Elise is on the left in the pink tutu</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
For anyone wanting to research Madame Alexander dolls since 1965, the book by Patricia Smith called 'Madame Alexander dolls 1965 - 1990' (Collector Books 1991) is an excellent resource with good quality photos of hundreds and hundreds of dolls.<br />

No, this isn't a Mattel doll, of course! But it is how we have all felt here in Melbourne this week; only got the energy to lie on our backs on cool floor boards with our tummies catching the breeze and waiting for food tid-bits to be put in close proximity. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now on to the real business of this post. After I got my Diva Starz dolls from the op-shop, I went all mad for those dolls, and bought another one on Evilbay. When I was looking for the Diva dolls, I spied these dollies one of which has inter-changeable heads. I just had to get them, and the seller had them at a very reasonable price so they have ended up with me.</div>

All the dolls have c Mattel on the back of their heads and c 1999 Mattel Inc on their backs. I haven't done any research to see exactly when these dolls were made except to check the Mattel website which wasn't any help. I think the quality of these 6 dolls is wonderful and their hair is divine. I don't think I will have to do much to restore their hair. The fabric that they are posing against is a cotton poplin from Spotlight which I am aiming to make into a shirt for me at some stage. I am halfway through making a summer top from some divine Liberty Tana Lawn cotton (for me). I took the photos of my Connie Crawford shirt but they came out really dark so I will have to take the photos again - but not today!</div>

If you like posts about doll hair as a feature of the doll, have a read of Nymphea's post on <a href="http://thedollbarn.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/ideal-crissy-and-other-hair-theme-dolls.html" target="_blank">'hair themed dolls'</a>, it is excellent! Thanks for making it this far in this pic heavy post. You might have noticed that I have added "'n dolls" to my blog title. The dolls appear to have taken over this blog and so I thought I had better change the blog title to reflect that. Nymphea suggested making up a new blog for my dolly stories, and while I am very tempted, I just don't think I could keep two blogs going. Here is a Disney doll who I think is some kind of ballerina because of the feathers sewn into her skirt and the fact that her elbows are bent and give her a dancer's look when they are raised. She has Disney on the back of her head and Simba Toys China on her back. Her dress isn't tagged but I would say it is the original as it it fits her so well. The earings look original too. Her shoes are borrowed from a no-name look alike Barbie from Big W store.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Next up is one of the Olsen twins with her other twins - triplets maybe? I am going to have my work cut out for me taming her sister's hair! The re-vamped Olsen twin has 2002 Dual. Ent. Grp. on the back of her head and 2002 Mattel Inc made in Indonesia on her back. I wonder why they have seemingly two different companies making these dolls? I know a lot of the antique dolls had heads and bodies made by different manufacturers; maybe they are adopting this manufacturing model. Or maybe it is just a parent company and a smaller off-shoot company. Anyway, I think the Olsen dolls have captured the likeness of their real life counterparts quite well. Her dress is from an ebay seller in China.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Thankyou to <a href="http://dollyfever.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Audra</a> and <a href="http://thedollbarn.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Nymphaea </a>for inquiring about the awful heat we had last week, it was truly dreadful if you don't like 40 plus degree days. We had four days of intense heat and the last 2 got up to 44 degrees! Quite a record for Melbourne. I managed okay, but after it was over and we got a cool change, it went from about 7 percent humidity to 70 percent. I don't like humid weather either...I guess it is summer though!<br />

<br />
Hi all, here I am back again after getting side-tracked from blogging in the lead up to Christmas.<br />
<br />
This is the third <a href="http://lizziesartycrafty.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/dolls-mystery-doll-reveal.html" target="_blank">Diva Starz</a> doll to get her makeover, and her hair nearly got the better of me, but came out alright in the end. I didn't make the dress; it is from an ebay seller in China. The necklace is one of Barbie's.<br />
<br />

To recap, here is the before - note the knotty hair:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been making a Connie Crawford shirt for summer and just sewing the buttons on today. I will do a post about it soon. I am going to need some more cool clothes as the temperatures are going to be 41 degrees tomorrow and then 38 and then back up to 40 by Friday. We are all gonna melt!</div>

Mystery Doll Reveal<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is the Mystery Doll; she is a Diva Starz Fashion Doll made by Mattel in the early 2000's. I just love her!! There is an interesting write-up about these dolls on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diva_Starz" target="_blank">Wikipedia</a>. I think this doll is Miranda. These dolls are 11 inches/28 cm tall, are battery operated and talk when you push the top off their head. Various personalities provided their voices to the dolls. They were discontinued after a few seasons as the sales dropped off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some of the op-shop dolls I got last week, including Miranda, waiting for their makeover. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Here they are having a good soak in the fabric softener:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was lucky to get three of these Diva Starz dolls, here is the second one that I made over, wearing a tagged Barbie dress that I got from the same op-shop. Miranda is wearing a Barbie dress too. After researching these dolls, I realised when I went back to the op-shop that their shoes were also on sale. I am guessing that the 'people out the back' (<a href="http://dollyfever.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Audra's </a>phrase) didn't know that these shoes went with these dolls, so they bagged them separately. I was lucky to get three pairs!!</div>

<br />
Finally, here is Tia or Nicki waiting for her make-over. She does look rather forlorn waiting for her make-over next to those two stylish chicks! I am hoping her hair responds as well as the others have to the fabric softener.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here is the complete line up of the 'Op Shop Five' that I have been making over during the last couple of months. Below is their before photo. I tried to compose them in a similar fashion so that the before and after was easier to compare.<br />

Here are the last two dolls to receive their makeovers:<br />

<br />
I know I have raved about how well the fabric softner worked on these Bratz dolls hair, but I am going to say it again - what magic stuff! I also gave a Barbie doll the same treatment, and considering this Barbie has quite bad quality hair, it came out well in the end. I will show you my latest dolly makeovers in my next post.<br />
<br />
For now, here is a 'mystery pic' of a gorgeous doll that I got in one of the bulk doll bags at my favourite local op shop. I will blog about her (and the many other dolls I got in the bag) later on this week.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have been 'missing in action' over the last month, but here I am at last. I had an operation a couple of months ago and I am fine now, but I have 'developed' another couple of symptoms that need looking in to. Nothing like everything happening at once!! Anyway, none of this has kept me away from the Op Shops, and I got this sweet little Enid Gilchrist pattern book for Women and Teenagers yesterday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This pattern is for a slip to wear under a dress which '...fit(s) smoothly at the waistline, yet have ample fullness around the hem. You will like this pattern." I like the nifty panel insert under the bust and at the center back.<br />
<br />

<br />
The advertisements are hilarious; one for the Commonwealth Savings Bank (an Australian bank which is still going strong) which advises teens to save up for their wardrobes with one of their bank accounts.<br />

Going forward to 1978 is this cute pattern for little girls' dresses. I just love the artwork on these old patterns, and that is the reason I get them when I see them. This one has come all the way from Perth, by the looks of the shop stamp on the pattern cover.<br />

There are only two of the <a href="http://lizziesartycrafty.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/dolls-tonner-16-inch-fashion-doll-bratz.html" target="_blank">Op-Shop Five Bratz</a> to have their makeovers and then I will show a group photo. I am keen to try this pattern to make some less trashy gear for the Bratz. It also goes as number 0382; not sure why it has two pattern numbers. <br />

Here is Bratz dolly number three, she is one of the Op-Shop Five that I bought recently. To recap here is the original gang. She is the second one from the right.<br />

<br />
I did the usual thing of washing and conditioning her hair and then soaking it for a couple of hours in some water with a big dollop of fabric softner. I also washed her clothes and she had a bath to try and remove some marks from her face and some on the back of her leg. I got the ones on her leg off but the ones on her face are stubborn and didn't quite come off.<br />
<br />

Now a word about that background they are standing on. I have curtailed my fabric shopping quite well over the last couple of months but this was too much to resist when I was using a voucher in Lincraft recently. It is a cotton sateen with a little bit of stretch in it. I am thinking of making a jacket with it (for me). I had to lighten the photos a little so that you could see the hair on the dolls, so the fabric is slightly darker than it appears.Lizziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00992557498807791164noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205683711813569180.post-50922502631805840842013-08-26T16:07:00.000+10:002013-08-26T16:07:57.723+10:00Dolls! 2007 Disney Mary Poppins from the Carousel Scene<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It was auction day a couple of weeks ago, (a real live one instead of ebay) and I won this Mary Poppins doll. No-one really wanted her, but as you might know, I love Mary Poppins, and have the doll that I got from the stage play some years ago. My blogger is playing up so I can't link you to the Mary Poppins stories on this site, so just type her name in the 'search this blog' box at the top left of the screen.<br />
<br />
Here is my other Mary Poppins doll from the stage show:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QxExMLdLGwE/UhrrMm57b2I/AAAAAAAABMc/m6QIdLmBQNQ/s1600/2nd+Mary+Poppins+Post+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" qsa="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QxExMLdLGwE/UhrrMm57b2I/AAAAAAAABMc/m6QIdLmBQNQ/s400/2nd+Mary+Poppins+Post+003.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And some more views of the Mary Poppins from the auction. She is a Disney Mary Poppins, made in 2007 and they have made her look like Julie Andrews who played Mary Poppins in the famous movie. Even though she looks nothing like Barbie, this doll is part of the Barbie Collector Pink Label series. Not sure why they call her Barbie when she doesn't look anything like one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You might not be able to see it, but the parrot head on her umbrella has a strange expression on it's face, as though it has been unwell or has a hang over after a few late nights out in a row.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Finally, a look at her from another angle, showing the carousel horse. She is a beautifull doll and I am glad that I won her. <br />

<br />
Here is my latest Bratz hair makeover. I also washed her jeans and top, and she had a bath too!<br />
<br />
To recap, I have a pic of her before her salon treatment. What messy fly-away hair she had!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I used the same shampoo and conditioner treatment, following up with a drop of fabric softener in a tub of water. I rinsed her hair in the softner and water mixture and then gave it a quick rinse under the tap.<br />

<br />
This hair makeover was a real success. I think it is the fabric softener that is doing the trick. I am not so sure I would use it on an old doll though. I wouldn't mind having another go at a Barbie doll to see if I could restore her hair, but I don't have any to practice on at the moment.<br />
<br />
I am gearing up to make a shirt for myself, and maybe a couple more as the weather is slowing moving into spring mode.<br />

Here is a Bratz dolly before her intensive salon treatment to improve her hair. I used a normal shampoo and conditioner (for humans, not dollies). <br />

This is the back view showing fairly knotty hair. I certainly couldn't get a comb through it. I finished off her salon treatment with a rinse in plenty of water in a basin with a big drop of fabric conditioner. I had read that fabric conditioner is great for getting out matting and knots in doll hair. After her hair had partly dried, it appeared a bit greasy so I rinsed it again in some water. </div>

Here she is post salon treatment, sorting through her accessories. Her hair can be easily combed now.<br />

I washed the pink sparkles and tulle dress that she came with and got rid of a lot of fluff that had attached itself to the tulle, along with her hair and what I think was her previous owner's hair.<br />

<br />
Here she is posing with her new best friend, another ebay purchase, a Bratz with bendy arms and applied eyelashes. I have no idea what kind of Bratz she is, although I have heard of them being referred to as 'Eyelash Bratz'.<br />
<br />
My blogger is playing up terribly, so sorry if this post looks a bit shabby in respect to layout (and typos!).<br />
